The Antarctic Expedition Toolkit app is designed with your privacy in mind. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it's used, and your rights regarding that data.
What Data We Collect
- Sightings You Log: Photos, timestamps, species names, and location coordinates from landings you record in the app.
- Your Sighting Notes: Any text observations or comments you add to your sightings.
- Device Information: Basic technical data (device type, app version) to help us diagnose crashes and improve performance.
How We Use Your Data
- To populate your personal trip report at the end of your expedition.
- To improve the app's accuracy and field reference materials.
- To understand which species and locations are most valuable to users.
- To debug crashes or performance issues you report.
What We Don't Do
- We never sell your sighting data to third parties.
- We never use your photos for commercial purposes without explicit permission.
- We never share your exact location outside your device, except with the ship when you explicitly enable position sync.
- We do not track you after your expedition ends.
Data Storage and Security
All sighting data lives on your device first. If you choose to sync, data is encrypted in transit and stored on our secure servers. We use industry-standard encryption and regularly audit our security practices.
Your Rights
Delete Your Data: After your trip, you can request complete deletion of your sighting logs, photos, and all associated data. Email us with your request, and we will comply within 30 days.
Export Your Data: You can download a copy of all your sighting data and photos at any time from within the app.
Opt Out of Improvements: You can disable analytics collection in Settings without affecting any other app features.
